What do you mean creative?
Yep, we know it’s subjective… It could mean anything. But on this website, it means Architects, Photographers, Graphic Designers, Fashion Designers, Artists, Web Designers, Writers, Advertising Creatives, Event Designers, Dancers, Chefs, Actors & Actresses, Musicians, Comedians & probably more…
What is creative excellence? Does it mean you have to be known overseas, had had exhibitions, have a name?
The people who will be featured won’t necessarily have to be famous or from overseas, but they will have achieved a lot in their fields and have genuine experience under their belt, and even better, industry respect.
Who decides?
Well, for now, as curator and creative director of the MIG site, John Calabro ultimately decides who gets featured, in a similar way that the curator of the NGV decides who exhibits there. But we are always interested in taking suggestions for who you think we should feature! Just bear in mind that we can’t show everyone all in one go… Articles will be updated over time and we have a list of people waiting to be interviewed.
Could this site be for people to be discovered?
We love the idea of being able to ‘discover’ new talents and this is certainly something we’d like to explore when the project picks up steam. In the meantime our hopes are that those undiscovered talents can see that it is possible to grow up in Gippsland and go on to do awesome things.
What about sport?
Oh yes, we love sport a great deal — but we do feel that there are many avenues already available for recognition of sporting achievements. The creative fields in contrast, have very few, espescially in Gippsland. So here we are.
Who is behind this?
Made in Gippsland is an initiative of Gippslander John Calabro and his Traralgon based design studio, The View From Here.
Where is Gippsland? Is it Latrobe Valley only?
Hell no… Early on most people featured on the site are going to be from Latrobe Valley only because they are people we are aware of, but we can’t wait to feature people from all around Gippsland. That means, people who were born in, lived, or still live in City of Latrobe, Baw Baw Shire, East Gippsland Shire, South Gippsland Shire, Bass Coast Shire, and Shire of Wellington.
Eh? Where the hell?
OK I’ll be more specific. Drouin, Warragul, Bunyip (the town, not the fictional monster), Yarragon, Trafalgar, Thorpdale, Mirboo North, Leongatha, Korumburra, Inverloch, Wonthaggi, Foster, Fish Creek, Yarram, Moe, Morwell, Traralgon, Churchill, Sale, Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance, Stratford, Rosedale, and all the smaller and larger towns in between and around all of those. We have missed out quite a few…
What’s with all the spelling mistakes and grammatical errors for heck’s sake!?
